AJ McCarron Wins Grievance Against Bengals

Former Cincy QB set to become Unrestricted Free Agent in March

Welp.

The Bengals just found a way to take another L.

In the off-season..

It’s been a terrible few weeks for the Bengals, and we haven’t even started to get into free agency yet.

Mike Brown left us to die in our misery when he re-signed Marvin Lewis. And now Bengals backup quarterback AJ McCarron won his grievance against the Bengals – making him an unrestricted free agent. That essentially means teams can snag him for free, instead of a 2nd/3rd round pick like we SHOULD have done.

Denver and Cleveland have shown interest. But then again, the Browns really screwed us over. They had agreed to trade for McCarron for their 2nd AND 3rd round pick! Christmas! A surprisingly good deal for the Bengals.

But with the Browns being the Browns… they managed to find a way to screw it up.

Remember that fiasco?

Trade was accepted. Bengals sent in their paperwork at 3:55 PM EST. All Browns had to do was dot a few I’s and send it to the NFL.

But nope.. they sent it to the Bengals, then waited for them to turn it in. Bengals didn’t get it in time, so the trade never happen. BUT even if the Browns had actually been competent enough to turn it into the NFL.. it still wouldn’t have mattered…

…because the Browns even screwed up the paperwork. It didn’t match the Bengals. Good game guys, solid attempt all around. Idiots. The most Browns thing ever.

Back to the kid… it’s hard to see exactly how good McCarron truly is.

We really only saw him for 5 games – with a stacked team. And he didn’t exactly play at an Elite Level with the weapons he had around him. And to his credit, he has gotten closer than Andy Dalton ever did to actually securing the Bengals a playoff win.

But Dalton was having an MVP caliber year – so it’s hard to see Dalton NOT winning that game, with how close it was.

The only time we’ve seen McCarron since is the Preseason. Kid didn’t look special. Few drives came later in the season, but when the Bengals were already getting killed. But I’m intrigued. It’ll be interesting to see how he plays for whatever team ends up signing him.

I’m sure he’s just happy to be clear of the Bengals organization.

The Bengals never truly used him properly. What could have been a healthy competition for the Starting QB job – turned into the weekly Andy Dalton Show. Andy struggles, let the kid play. Tell him he has a shot if he can outperform Dalton. I see him as a solid backup, but he’s not going to be leading any teams to the Superbowl.

All that being said, I think I speak for most Bengals fans when I say.. We wish AJ McCarron the best of luck wherever he ends up!
