“Oh cool, the Bengals traded for LT Corey Glenn”
..Keeps scrolling..
“WHOA WAIT, WE DID SOMETHING?!?!”
After I stared at my phone for hours (in shock) I realized..
The Bengals actually made a good trade.
Trade compensation update on Cordy Glenn deal, as @PSchrags said.
Bengals get OT Cordy Glenn and Bills first-round pick (No. 21).
Bills get Bengals’ No. 12 overall selection.
Bengals also get Bills’ fifth-round pick and Bills get Bengals’ sixth-round pick.

Hello, Cordy Glenn
Glenn was the 41st Overall Pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, selected by the Buffalo Bills. He’s been a starter at Left Tackle since Day 1 and should be entering his prime/continuing to play at an above average level. In working with new Offensive Line coach Grank Pollack – he could even become elite.
He was rated as one of the higher left tackles, and the Bills liked to hold onto the ball. That tells us at the very least that he can hold blocks. This is a rare case of a win/win trade in my opinion.
Bengals get the biggest need (Left Tackle) and Bills move up to 12th Overall to try to secure a Quarterback. A few people were outspokenly unhappy about the Bengals moving down, but this still works out well. Glenn can be the answer at LT for 5 years or more, and we’ll no longer have to spend a First Round pick on LT.
Draft Candidates
Bengals potentially had 4 likely candidates for O-Line at 12 Overall:
- OG Quenton Nelson – likely gone
- LB Roquan Smith – likely gone
- LB Tremaine Edmunds – likely gone
- OT Connor Williams – likely there (but we don’t need him now!)
If the Bengals still had the 12th pick – there aren’t too many huge options there. Derwin James is possible, but a linebacker or guard seems like the better option. Not many projected there. Plenty available at 21.
Players such as:
- LB Rashaan Evans
- OG Isiah Wynn
- LB Leighton Vander Esch
- OG Will Hernandez
Isn’t He Injured Though?
Another downside (past the Bengals moving down to 21 in the First Round) is injuries – Cordy Glenn has missed the last 15 of his 32 games with injuries.
Okay yeah, that’s a little scary. But even with Mike Brown running the show, the Bengals wouldn’t make this trade if they were the least bit concerned with injury.
Not only did the Bengals make a big move… but they made GOOD move. This fills a huge hole at LT, and set us up to get a good guard or linebacker. I’m happy, you’re happy, we’re all ready to jump back aboard the Marvin Lewis train. Made this is the year we finally win that pesky playoff win.
To Mike Brown, Marvin Lewis, or whomever made this trade happen; we thank you. #WhoDey
